Halotherapy, also known as dry Salt Therapy, is a fast-growing holistic approach that mimics the microclimate of a salt cave.
A little bit of science about Halotherapy...
When the benefits of salt therapy were first discovered in the 1800s, people would have to travel deep into real salt mines to find relief from their respiratory & skin ailments. Thanks to advances in technology, we can now step into a beautiful state-of-the-art salt room to receive this natural detoxifying, and rejuvenating treatment.
Halotherapy (also known as salt therapy) is derived from the Greek word for salt — halos.
There are a variety of stories about how it came to be considered a modern wellness treatment as a result of observing the positive effects on miners who spent prolonged periods of time in salt caves, but salt therapy is actually a centuries old treatment which is regaining popularity as an all-natural and drug-free remedy for respiratory, allergy and skin conditions, as well as stress and fatigue, equally suitable for adults and children. This resurgence is partly in thanks to the increasingly availability of man-made salt caves, salt rooms, salt spas, and salt chambers, more readily available and accessible than the historically isolated salt caves.
Halotherapy, also known as dry Salt Therapy, is a fast-growing holistic approach that mimics the microclimate of a salt cave.
Our salt cabin, featuring pure Himalayan Salt floor and panels together with our medical grade Halogenerator, recreates the therapeutic microclimate of a natural salt grotto. Inhalation of micro-sized salt particles generated by the halogenerator can help alleviate many respiratory issues and health conditions.
We breathe in the micro-sized salt particles, which are immediately transported to every part of the respiratory tract, even the smallest alveoli, and bronchioles. Then the dry salt molecules dissolve and attract small impurities, the reason why it is called the toothbrush of the lungs.
Salt therapy works to strengthen and support your immune system, while also deep cleaning and detoxing the sinuses and lungs by eliminating allergens, toxins and pollutants. It is also known to alleviate the symptoms of the following conditions:
Halotherapy offers the best results when practiced regularly. The benefits are cumulative, so consistency and frequency are the key.
Those with chronic respiratory and skin conditions like asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, allergies and psoriasis may benefit by visiting the salt cave 1-2 times a week over a four week period. Many feel improvement after one or two sessions but continued sessions may be required to achieve long-term results.
Salt therapy is also used as a preventative measure to help strengthen the immune system against colds, cough, allergies and sinus issues. Those who are looking to incorporate Salt Therapy into their regular wellness routine would benefit from a weekly session.
Seating in the salt cave includes Adirondack chairs with foot rests. During the 20 minute session, the salt cave will be filled with a fine aerosol mist of dry salt particles. This provides many potential health benefits, in addition to the warm Himalayan salt that is in the room, salt therapy is designed to provide a soothing and tranquil environment. It's a place where you can sit back, relax and experience the salt treatment in a very peaceful and non-stressful setting.
Yes. Dry Salt therapy is a completely drug-free treatment for children and adults. Children as young as 3 months have benefitted greatly and respond quickly and effectively to Halotherapy. Children are more prone to respiratory problems because they pick up more viruses and their lungs are not fully developed until about the age of 9.
Our salt cave can comfortably seat up to 8 people per session.
We require appropriate clothing and recommend you dress comfortably. The cabin is generally 77 degrees but since it is a dry heat, it doesn’t necessarily feel that warm. Only shoes need to be removed before walking into the salt cave, most people prefer to take their socks off too.
Halotherapy should be avoided during the acute phase of any illness, including the following: infections accompanied by fever, acute active tuberculosis, cardiac insufficiency, COPD in third stage, bleeding, spitting of blood, contagious ailments, have use of an oxygen tank to aid breathing, alcohol or drug intoxication, unstable or uncontrolled hypertension, acute stages of respiratory diseases and individuals actively taking chemotherapy.
However, if someone is on any medications or suffers from any serious medical issue, please seek medical advice before any therapy.
No. Dry Salt Therapy should be used as a complementary treatment. People who come to The Salt Cabin often find that they can reduce their dependence on certain medications and that their episodes are not as frequent or severe.
However, you should always follow your doctor’s advice and your prescribed medication regimen.
Salt is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and absorbs bacteria. The microclimate of a salt cabin makes it almost impossible to catch an infection or virus. The cabin is constantly ventilated as well. If bacteria were to somehow remain in the room and not eliminated by the salt that is disbursed in the room, it would be removed during the ventilation time, which follows each session and would exit the building via duct work.
